The Perfect Fall Recipe: Caramel Apple Hand Pies

It's officially fall and that means it's time for all things apple and pumpkin! While traditional apple pies are always a delicious option, why not spice things up with a unique and portable twist? These caramel apple hand pies are the perfect dessert for any fall gathering or cozy night in. Here's how to make them:

Ingredients:

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Instructions:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the diced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the pie crusts and cut out circles using a 4-inch round cookie cutter.
  • Place about 2 tablespoons of the apple mixture onto one half of each circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
  • Drizzle some caramel sauce over the apple mixture.
  • Brush the edges of the pie crust with the beaten egg and fold the other half of the crust over the filling, pressing the edges together to seal.
  • Use a fork to crimp the edges of the hand pie.
  • Place the hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle with coarse sugar and cut a few slits in the top of each hand pie to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the deliciousness!

These caramel apple hand pies are a perfect way to celebrate the flavors of fall. The warm and gooey filling combined with the flaky, buttery crust is a winning combination. Don't be surprised if these hand pies become a new fall favorite in your household. Happy baking!
